1 Mins read

Last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix race winner Nico Rosberg ended day one of the in-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya with the quickest time, more than two seconds faster than his nearest rival.

The German Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS driver ran a day-high 146 laps around the Spanish track, and set a best time of 1m24.374s, which was 2.250s faster than second placed Marcus Ericsson of the Sauber F1 Team, who himself ran 97 laps.

Ferrari Driver Academy driver Raffaele Marciello was third quickest for the Scuderia Ferrari team, setting a lap time just 0.024s slower than Ericsson, and will take over the Swede’s drive in the Sauber team for day two on Wednesday.

Daniil Kvyat was fourth fastest for the Infiniti Red Bull Racing team, running 100 laps, ending with a best time of 1m26.904s, while Pastor Maldonado was fifth for the Lotus F1 Team, running 60 laps with a best time of 1m27.338s.

Nick Yelloly was sixth for Sahara Force India having not been scheduled to run on Tuesday, but was brought in when Pascal Wehrlein withdrew due to illness. The Briton, who made his GP2 Series debut last weekend for Hilmer Motorsport at this circuit, set a best time of 1m27.396s having completed 109 laps of the Spanish track.

Another driver making his Formula 1 test debut was Pierre Gasly, who spent the day running with the Scuderia Toro Rosso team. The Frenchman, who took his maiden GP2 Series podium last weekend with the DAMS team, completed 128 laps, setting a best time of 1m27.639s.

Felipe Massa was the least busiest driver on Tuesday, completing 54 laps for Williams Martini Racing, finishing eighth fastest with a best time of 1m27.911s, while Oliver Turvey brought up the rear, running 66 laps for McLaren-Honda who were running a number of experimental parts. The Briton set a best time of 1m28.542s, 4.168s adrift of the pace of Rosberg.
