O’Donovan Debuts New Fiesta at Belgium EuroRX

2 Mins read

Ollie O’Donovan will make his debut in the 2015 FIA European Rallycross Championship this weekend, introducing a brand new Ford Fiesta Supercar for his EuroRX challenge.

The Team RX Racing driver returned to rallycross action midway through the 2014, contesting the second half of the British Rallycross Championship in a Ford Focus and taking three event wins in the process. O’Donovan will use the Fiesta for the full five round series as well as contesting the WorldRX Of Great Britain in a weeks time. He will also use the Tony Bardy Motorsport built car for the rest of his BritishRX season as well.

O’Donovan is excited about the potential of the car, ahead of what he sees will be a challenging EuroRX campaign which kicks off in Belgium this weekend.

“It’s a new car, new championship and new event for me this weekend, said O’Donovan.  “Everything is totally new but I’m really looking forward to racing in the European Championship, the level is really high so it will be a steep learning curve.

“We are up with it. Tony [Bardy] and his boys have done a great job with the car so we’re hoping to learn a lot this weekend, and come away with a strong result. We haven’t had a chance to do a full test, but that isn’t unusual, I’ve never done a full test in my life so it doesn’t bother me at all. The best way to learn is to get racing,”

The London-based Southern Irishman was in action last weekend at the Pembrey round of the British Rallycross Championship, where he was quick during the heat stages but a puncture during the Final meant he finished in sixth place. So far his best result this season was at Croft where he finished in 2nd place behind winner Andy Scott.

Despite the puncture, O’Donovan is optimistic about the next BritishRX round at Mondello Park.

“We had a good day at Pembrey, but we had puncture on the first lap of the final and that through us out of contention. We were hoping for a top three, but our luck just hasn’t been in lately. I won my first heat and we made a lot of steps again with the tyres, which have been great, but it just wasn’t our day. I’m looking forward to the next round at Mondello now.”

Heats One and Two of the EuroRX opening round take place on Saturday with Heats Three and Four as well as the EuroRX Semi-Finals and Final take place on Sunday.
