Pizzonia sets Silverstone pace in opening practice

Antonio Pizzonia set the pace in opening practice for the Silverstone round of the Auto GP championship, with the Brazilian leading the eight-car field by 1.499s.

The Zele Racing driver and current championship leader after a win and a runners-up spot in the season opener in Hungary, set a best time of 1m46.812s under blue skies, with team-mate Luis Sa Silva second fastest.

Facu Regalia ended the session in third in the sole FMS Racing entry, with his team-mate from Hungary Leonardo Pulcini, who took a superb podium in race two, absent this weekend.

Christof von Grunigen was fourth fastest for Paolo Coloni Racing, who are running two cars this weekend for the first time with series returnee Loris Spinelli seventh quickest.

The third of the Zele Racing cars was fifth with Colombian Andres Mendez, ahead of Giuseppe Cipriani in his Ibiza Racing Team entry, while bringing up the rear behind Spinelli was the sole Virtuosi UK entry this weekend of Russian Nikita Zlobin with his Hungaroring team-mate Johnny Cecotto Jr racing in the GP2 Series in Monaco with Hilmer Motorsport.
