Regalia sweeps to Silverstone Auto GP pole

1 Mins read

Facu Regalia took pole position for race one of the second round of the 2015 Auto GP Championship season, with the Argentine driver more than a second clear of the dwindling field.

The FMS Racing driver set a best time of 1m46.253s during the second part of qualifying to beat Antonio Pizzonia of Zele Racing by 1.105s, having seen the Brazilian former Formula 1 driver set the best time in the first part.

Nikita Zlobin will line-up third on the grid in the sole Virtuosi UK entry for this weekend, alongside a second Zele Racing entry of Luis Sa Silva.

Christof von Grünigen will start fifth for Paolo Coloni Racing, with the third and final Zele Racing entry of Andres Mendez sixth. Despite not participating in the second part of qualifying, gentleman driver Giuseppe Cipriani will start seventh for his Ibiza Racing Team.

Only seven cars participated in qualifying, down from the eight that took part in opening practice on Friday, with the second Paolo Coloni Racing entry failing to take to the track, with neither main driver Loris Spinelli nor apparent replacement driver Riccardo Vera running.

Race one takes place on Saturday with Regalia set to lead the field away, with the reverse grid race two set for Sunday ahead of the Blancpain Endurance Championship main event at Silverstone.
