Buemi Still Fastest in Second Practice

1 Mins read

Sebastien Buemi topped practice for the second time today, putting him in the best place ahead of Qualifying. He was the only driver into the 1 minute 9 seconds while Loic Duval crashed and broke his front wing for the second time today.

Amlin Aguri were forced to change a battery on Antonio Felix da Costa‘s car as the rest of the field headed out. Many drivers decide to use the 200KW immediately with the Venturi Formula E cars setting the pace, just a few tenths off Buemi’s time this morning. A few mistake early on saw some ruin their laps, but it was Duval who found himself in the wall for the second session in a row, after going straight on at the first corner.

Nick Heidfeld was the fastest on the restart ahead of Sephane Sarrazin and Lucas di Grassi. As the session got going again it was Nelson Piquet Jr. who managed to go fastest but was soon beat by championship rival di Grassi. Not wanting to be beaten, Piquet pushed to go fastest despite drifting the car through many of the corners.

With 8 minutes to go, Vergne went fastest, but it was harder for team mate Justin Wilson who found it hard to get a clean lap after making a mistake in turn 3. The Venturi’s seemed faultless however with both inside the top five, with 4 minutes to go.

As the session started to wind down, Buemi became the first driver to go into the 1 minute 9 seconds. But impressive times from other drivers ensured that the gap was coming down quickly. By the end, a competitive session saw 8 drivers from eight teams in the top eight.

At the end of the session Buemi was fastest once again, Vergne was behind as Piquet lead da Costa, who recovered after a battery change at the start. Di Grassi and Heidfeld rounded out the top six.
