De Silvestro Makes Formula E Debut in London

1 Mins read

Simona de Silvestro will make her Formula E debut at the London ePrix for the Andretti Formula E team on the 27th and 28th June, in the double header which will end the season. She will partner Jean-Eric Vergne, becoming the third different female to race in the series.

She will replace Justin Wilson for the final two rounds of the season, becoming the first female to compete in Formula E since Michela Cerutti raced at the Buenos Aires ePrix back in January.

The Indycar driver has had a troubled season. She took a season out in 2014 to become an affiliated driver with the Sauber F1 Team however; no race seat materialised and was forced to return to Indycar for 2015. Her last race was at the Indianapolis 500 where she could only manage nineteenth.

The Swiss driver has driven a Formula E car in a demonstration run in Geneva before. She also has close connections to the Andretti team, having raced for them in the main Indycar series.

De Silvestro will not be the only driver change this weekend as Amlin Aguri will need to find a replacement for their race winner; Antonio Felix da Costa, who is competing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters championship. While Trulli GP will also need to find someone to replace Vitantonio Liuzzi.
