E.Dams Dominate in Opening Practice

1 Mins read

It was the E.Dams-Renault drivers being the only competitors to set 200KW laps. Sebastien Buemi led Nico Prost with Bruno Senna as the fastest of the 150KW drivers for the Moscow ePrix.

Before the weekend, the Formula E line up saw 2 driver changes with Justin Wilson joining the Andretti Formula E team as Scott Speed competes in the X Games, while Antonio Garcia comes into the NEXTEV TCR car in replacement of Charles Pic.

Buemi was the first driver to set the pace, initially setting a 1:19.3 as all the drivers but Jean-Eric Vergne made their way onto the track. However; the times would quickly drop as the drivers made progress around the tight Moscow Circuit.

After 8 minutes, Antonio Felix da Costa started to set the pace as he pushed to set a 1:14.0, half a second in front of the others. However; the red flag came out soon after as Sam Bird lost his wheel as he passed the timing line. He brought the car to a stop as the rest of the cars came into the pits. By this point, Da Costa lead Jaime Alguersuari and Nelson Piquet Jr.

With 25 minutes to go, the session got back underway as most of the cars came back out. The drivers started setting personal bests as the fastest time dropped. However; the cars would soon settle down as the drivers looked to help their fuel consumption and long run pace, leaving Alguersuari on top only for a short time as Lucas di Grassi found a free gap to go fastest on a 1:12.8, the first driver under 1 minute 13 seconds.

As the session came to an end the drivers practised car changes with some setting qualifying runs. These were interrupted however as Vergne and Loic Duval found themselves running wide at turn 3 and 4. After the yellow flags came in the times continued to fall with Stephane Sarrazin going fastest on the full 200KW of power.

As the session drew to a close, it was the e.Dams who dominated the front row, however; Duval found himself off again, but this time he hit the wall at the turn 7 chicane. Behind fastest man Buemi and team mate Prost, Senna lined up third, the fastest on 150KW, ahead of Sarrazin and Daniel Abt. Meanwhile Wilson managed fourteenth in his opening session.
