Nyck de Vries: “We had a very good race on Sunday”

1 Mins read

Nyck de Vries took his second podium finish of 2015 in race two at Spa-Francorchamps, with the McLaren Junior Driver holding off the challenge of Matthieu Vaxiviere over the closing laps to match his best result of the season.

The Dutch driver had finished ninth in race one on Saturday, with the DAMS driver admitting to making a mistake during the race, although he felt he was not fast enough to take a podium.

“First of all a big thanks to the whole team as they did a great job all weekend,” said de Vries. “The first race went off badly. I wasn’t fast enough to score a podium finish; I also made a mistake so ninth place was a big disappointment.”

De Vries was far happier with his pace on Sunday, and was delighted to hold off the challenge of Lotus driver Vaxiviere despite the Frenchman appearing to have better pace than the Dutchman.

“Luckily, we had a very good race on Sunday with a great start despite the fact that we couldn’t use the DRS,” said de Vries. “I had a great scrap with Vaxivière and this time I came out on top!”
