The Ford OlsbergsMSE duo of Joni Wiman and Sebastian Eriksson are looking to improve on their performance in last weekend’s opening round of the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship.
2014 champion Wiman missed the running on Sunday due to physical issues he experienced after the heat stages on Saturday at the Fort Lauderdale circuit whilst his 2015 team-mate and series rookie Sebastian Eriksson made an impressive start to his campaign by driving his Ford Fiesta Supercar to fourth place in the Supercar Final.
Both drivers are looking forward to taking part in the X Games at Austin, Texas where Eriksson will make his debut in the series whilst taking on familiar names such as WorldRX drivers Liam Doran and fellow OlsbergsMSE stablemate Andreas Bakkerud, who replaces Nelson Piquet Jr. in the SH Rallycross Ford Fiesta. Eriksson is already familiar with the X Games after finishing in third place in the Invitational GRC Lites catergory in 2013. Wiman returns to action in the X Games this weekend, having won the Invitational GRC Lites catergory in 2013 and showing good pace last year in his Supercar debut before crashing in his Semi-Final race.
Eriksson is looking fofward to the challenge ahead of this weekend as it is not counted towards the Red Bull GRC Series and is a standalone event.
“The focus is on one race where we’ll drive hard to get a medal,” he said. “We don’t have to play the long game and worry about the championship here.”
The X Games rewards Rallycross drivers with a different method used in GRC action by awarding the drivers who finish first, second and third with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
