Team Project 1’s Philipp Eng stormed back to the top of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup classification at Silverstone on British Grand Prix Saturday, qualifying on pole position for round four of the season tomorrow morning.
The Austrian narrowly held off practice topper Alex Riberas in the The Heart of Racing by Lechner car, the two trading fastest times with MRS-GT Racing driver Christian Engelhart, who ended the session sixth after having times disallowed due to track limits infringements, a notable feature of the weekend so far.
MOMO-Megatron Team PARTRAX’s Ben Barker qualified fifth and his chances of a podium are looking good on home soil. The best of the Porsche Carrera Cup of Great Britain runners was Tom Sharp for IDL Racing, putting in a stunning lap to qualify tenth as Dan Cammish and Redline Racing faltered to twelfth. A Cammish comeback charge surely on the cards for Sunday.
Jake Hill was another surprise in a good way, IN2Racing’s young charge fourteenth ahead of Team Parker Racing’s Josh Webster who sits a lowly seventeenth in a field packed with talent. Stephen Jelley is only four places back from Webster in twenty first, narrowly besting MOMO man Cameron Twynham. VERVA Lechner Racing Team driver for this weekend Ryan Cullen is twenty fourth whilst Graeme Mundy did a fantastic job to snatch twenty seventh for In2Racing. Jack Falla’s Redline car has been sidelined, a consequence of the driver being deemed unfit to race after his Croft smash a week ago.
After such a session, expect drama aplenty when the Supercup takes to the track for the fourth race of their season at 10:45 tomorrow morning.
