American Kevin Gleason is looking forward to returning to Austria this weekend as the TCR International Series visits the Red Bull Ring in the last stop of the European part of the season.
The last time the series visited Austria, Gleason guided his JAS Motorsport built WestCoast Racing Honda Civic TCR to his first ever victory in the series and he was also able to show a healthy amount of pace during qualifying at the fast Salzburgring circuit. With the Red Bull Ring offering more fast straights, but also a more undulating circuit, the American is optimistic of a return to form after suffering a lack of pace in Russia.
“I feel more optimistic than I did at Sochi Autodrom, as that proved to be one of worst tracks to be carrying maximum ballast,” said Gleason. “My WestCoast Racing team and I expect the Red Bull Ring to suit the Honda Civic TCR a little more, but we’re aware that the circuit recently hosted the SEAT Eurocup and some of our rivals will benefit from that experience.
“The circuit has a nice flow to it and some fast turns, and that’s where our car is strong. I return to Austria with good vibes after opening my race wins account at the Salzburgring and so I have a positive attitude, determined to get the Honda back up front.”
The American driver is joined by his regular team mates of Gianni Morbidelli, who has been the pace setter at several events this year and Igor Skuz, who returns to the team after stepping aside for the Sochi weekend.
