Max Vatanen Looking to Extend Lead in Poland

1 Mins read

Leading the 2015 Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy so far is Max Vatanen, and the Finnish driver is hoping to extend his championship lead at Rally Poland this weekend.

At the opening round of the season in Portugal, Vatanen took the victory and now sits on 31 points, ten clear of Marius Aasen in 2nd position, heading into round two.

Most recently he has scored a podium position at Rally Warminski, which he entered in preparation for this event, due to its similar soft gravel surface.

“I had a good pace and it was great to be back into the rhythm of competition again,” said Vatanen. “It means that we can push straight away as soon as Rally Poland gets going – and I can’t wait to start!

“It was fantastic to win in Portugal but we have to stay very realistic: one victory doesn’t make a career or a championship. So we’ve kept our feet firmly on the ground. In fact, we’ve been analysing very carefully our strengths and weaknesses in Portugal to see how we can improve.

“It’s just a question of working hard on every detail in order to put ourselves in the best possible situation for Poland. I’ve got nice memories of this rally, so I think we can have another good weekend.”

It was at 2014 Rally Poland where Vatanen had his first experience racing in the country, but with 90% of the stages new for 2015, all drivers will be equally inexperienced.
