Bottas looking for ‘strong result’ in Belgium

1 Mins read

Valtteri Bottas reckons the Spa-Francorchamps circuit could offer the Williams Martini Racing team another opportunity to show their strengths, and is looking to stand on the podium for the second consecutive season at the Belgian track.

The Finn finished third in the 2014 event behind race winner Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Rosberg, with Bottas aiming for a competitive weekend on a circuit he feels should be suited to the team.

“Spa is one of my favourite circuits,” said Bottas. “The feeling of Eau Rouge in a Formula One car is hard to explain and certainly unique, it’s just incredible.

“The layout is normally strongly suited to the characteristics of our car as well, so I head to this weekend looking for a strong result. I was on the podium last year, so we are looking to achieve a similar result.

“The weather always plays a part throughout the weekend so we have to be alert as it can change so fast.”

Team-mate Felipe Massa also admits to loving Spa-Francorchamps, and has a victory at the circuit during his Scuderia Ferrari days back in 2008, and has only failed to finish inside the top ten in Belgium on two occasions in ten attempts.

The Brazilian also believes the Williams FW37 should suit the circuit this weekend, and is looking for his second podium of the season after taking third in Austria.

“Spa is the most enjoyable circuit for many of the drivers and it’s definitely my favourite,” said Massa. “It’s always good to have a strong result at the circuits you enjoy driving.

“The weather can sometimes surprise us so we will need to be on the ball when it comes to strategic decision making.

“The layout suits the strengths of our car so we’re looking to start the second half of the season in a strong position.”
