The top four drivers in the Renault UK Clio Cup standings assumed the top four places in qualifying at Knockhill, with Ash Hand leading the pack with a double pole position ahead of his Team Pyro stablemate Ashley Sutton.
A best effort of 56.841s put Hand on course for his sixth and seventh pole positions of the season so far, with Sutton 0.134s adrift as he made it ten front row starts for twelve races this season – a stunning record in his maiden Clio campaign.
Paul Rivett secured himself third on the grid for both races, with championship leader Ant Whorton-Eales posting the fourth best times for each encounter – however a two place grid penalty carried over from Croft means he will start the opener from sixth.
Outside the title challengers, the best of the rest was JamSport’s Dan Holland, who finished the session half a second shy of the pole time. With Whorton-Eales’ penalty, he will start the opener fourth and race two sixth.
Pipping him on second fastest times was series returnee Lee Pattison, putting him fifth on the grid for both races, while Jack Mitchell and Charlie Ladell will share row four each time, Mitchell ahead for race one, before they switch positions for race two.
Tom Grundy and Rory Collingbourne completed a top ten separated by 1.088 seconds, with George Jackson, Rory Green and Mark Howard rounding out the thirteen car grid.
