Barwell Motorsport move to Lamborghini for 2016

2 Mins read

Barwell Motorsport, the GT team extraordinaire which currently run BMW Z4s in British GT and the Blancpain Endurance Series, has announced their link up with Lamborghini for 2016.

The new deal will see Barwell run three Lamborghini Huracan GT3s in endurance racing across Europe. Two cars will be raced in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and one will be raced in the European Le Mans Series and the Blancpain Endurance Series.

It has received official factory backing for the new programme in Europe, with a commercial link up with MP Motorsport allowing Barwell to purchase three of the striking Huracans.

Linking with the Lamborghini factory has meant that the team will be officially known in British GT as Barwell Motorsport supported by Lamborghini Squadra Corse for the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Mark Lemmer, Barwell Motorsport MD, said:We are delighted to announce our plans with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 from 2016 onwards. To have secured a three year deal with factory support from such an iconic brand, with its rich sports car heritage is exactly what we need going forward. We share common goals in our pursuit of winning national and international race series as well as targeting victories in the blue chip endurance races, and both parties are highly motivated in our quest for success. I have no doubt that the Huracán GT3 is the right tool for the job and we are very much looking forward to building a strong working relationship with Lamborghini Squadra Corse.”

The team has also confirmed to The Checkered Flag that discussions with current customers and drivers  are ongoing with the Z4 currently run under the Team Russia By Barwell with Demon Tweeks banner being put up for sale in the coming weeks. The Ecurie Ecosse car – run by Barwell – is owned by a third party.

Mark Poole, owner of MP Motorsport, said: “I’m delighted to renew my partnership with Barwell Motorsport, and I’m really looking forward to competing with the new Huracán GT3 over the next few seasons.”

Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsport, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. added: “As Lamborghini Squadra Corse we are glad to announce the partnership with Barwell Motorsport in the GT3 programme.  We consider it strategic in the British GT Championship where we want to show the performance of the Huracán GT3, and of course to be a protagonist with Barwell in the key international GT series. ”
