Collard Takes Victory as Ticktum secures Rookie Title

1 Mins read

Another champion drive from Ricky Collard sees him take his sixth win of the year having started down in fifth for the reverse grid race. After holding his position at the start, Collard made the right moves to quickly join the lead battle before taking Sennan Fielding with 2 laps to go.

Collard had started the race with a 32 point disadvantage to his closest rival Lando Norris in the championship. With Norris on pole for race three, Collard knew he needed to make the most of his chance.

After the order had settled down at the start, he had managed to find himself in third and chasing down Fielding in front. The two would eventually take the lead and break away from the pack where they swapped fastest laps with each other.

With under 2 minutes left on the clock, Collard bravely found a way past into Luffield and managed to defend his line from the JHR Development driver.

In third overall was Dan Ticktum. The third place and win in the rookie class ensured he won the Rookie championship with four races to go in the calendar. Having made a clean start, he also made the most of the slower front runners but continued to fight with Matheus Leist for much of the race.

Having eventually made his way past, he finished third while Leist finished fourth, benefiting from the large time penalty given to Toby Sowery.

Sowery had been running third for the later half of the race, but fell back overall as he was given a penalty for track limits. The same penalty would be applied to pole sitter Sandy Mitchell. Sowery didn’t finish in the top ten.

In fifth after all the penalties was Daniel Baybutt. He’d started second, but struggled to hold on to the lead he inherited in the early stages. At the end of the race, he held off Colton Herta who records another sixth place finish, but loses out to Fielding in the championship.

Rafael Martins recovered to finish seventh in front of the struggling Norris. While, Jack Butel finished ninth and Mitchell tenth after his penalty.
