Evans Amongst Drivers to Receive Post-Qualifying Penalties

1 Mins read

Following the GP2 Series qualifying session in Monza on Friday, four drivers have been handed penalties ahead of the first race on Saturday.

Mitch Evans, who qualified second on Friday afternoon, was excluded from the overall results when it was discovered that the tyre pressures on the RUSSIAN TIME car were below the minimum required pressure. This means that Evans will have to start from the back of the grid whilst Stoffel Vandoorne is promoted to second and Alex Lynn starts in third.

Lazarus driver Sergio Canamasas has also been excluded from Friday’s session for the same reason as Evans. The Spaniard’s tyre pressures were under the minimum required pressure and so after qualifying in the top ten, Canamasas will start at the back of the grid alongside the RUSSIAN TIME driver.

Marlon Stockinger has received a penalty after it was proven that he impeded Rene Binder between Turn 10 and 11. The Status Grand Prix driver who qualified 21st will drop three places.

Meindert Van Buuren, who is standing in for fellow Dutchman Daniel de Jong, has received also received a three place grid penalty for being found guilty when he was also believed to have been impeding his MP Motorsport teammate Binder at the same corners as Stockinger had. As the rookie only qualified 25th, he will be made to start Saturday’s race from the pit lane.
