Kvyat leads Raikkonen in second Singapore practice

1 Mins read

Daniil Kvyat recovered from his difficult first practice to lead the way under the night sky in second practice at Singapore as neither Mercedes finished inside the top three.

Kvyat set the pace for the beleaguered Infiniti Red Bull Racing team with a lap of 1m46.142s to beat Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen by just 0.039s, while Daniel Ricciardo made it a reasonable afternoon for Red Bull with third place.

Lewis Hamilton was the leading Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS driver in fourth, 0.337s behind Kvyat, while team-mate Nico Rosberg was down in seventh, behind the second Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel and Sahara Force India’s Sergio Perez, as both championship contenders seemed to struggle with the Supersoft Pirelli tyres.

Fernando Alonso put his McLaren-Honda into eighth, with the second Force India of Nico Hulkenberg ninth and Max Verstappen tenth for Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Felipe Massa was eleventh quickest and the leading Williams Martini Racing driver on a disappointing evening for the Grove team, with team-mate Valtteri Bottas struggling down in seventeenth.

Sauber F1 Team duo Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson were twelfth and thirteenth in their upgraded C34’s, ahead of Jenson Button and Carlos Sainz, while Lotus F1 Team drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado struggled, finishing sixteenth and eighteenth respectively.

The two Manor F1 Team drivers were well off the pace, with Alexander Rossi only getting a handful of laps on track towards the end of the session following his FP1 crash, while Will Stevens himself crashed early in FP2, causing a red flag and ending his session after only three laps.
