Irishman Craig Breen continued his dominating performance today on the final round of the 2015 FIA European Rally Championship, the Rallye International du Valais.
The Peugeot Academy driver won five of today’s seven stages and heads into the final leg of the event with a lead of 55.9 seconds over the field in his Peugeot 208 T16. Breen has re-discovered the form that took him to a hat-trick of wins earlier in the season and is enjoying a trouble free run on the Swiss event.
It’s nice to do a rally with no pressure and just go out and enjoy yourself,” said Breen. “We’ve had a lot of stage wins and no problems with the car, so I’m happy with that. We’re just driving in the middle of the road and not taking any risks. We have a nice cushion, so the plan is to keep our head down tomorrow and take the win.”
Local driver Olivier Burri is still second and despite some intercom problems and tyre selection issues the Swiss driver is still under a minute behind Breen in his Citroen DS3 RRC. He is closely followed by Alexey Lukyanuk who is continuing his impressive performance on tarmac in his Ford Fiesta R5. The star of the show is Francois Delacour who is still fourth in his Porsche 997 GT3. With the car completely unsuited to the tight and twisty stages the Frenchman is impressively competitive and set second fastest time on stage nine.
Florian Gonon is fifth while Emil Bergkvist continues his highly impressive R5 debut in sixth in the Peugeot 208 T16. The ERC Junior champion set third fastest time on the final stage of the day. Seven more stages great competitors on the final leg of the 2015 ERC season.
