Dan Holland brought his 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup campaign to a close with a second podium finish in the final three races during a mixed season finale at Brands Hatch GP.
In his second race meeting with WDE Motorsport, Holland was unable to capitalise on ninth place in qualifying during a frenetic opening race, getting caught up in some early incidents and retiring on lap two.
The 17 year old made amends during a thrilling final race of the season though, picking his way through the early chaos this time to settle in fourth place, before grabbing third from Ash Hand on lap eight.
From there, Holland closed down a three second gap to the squabbling top two and looked to seize on their battling to gain more ground, but with Luke Kidsley right in his rear view mirrors he had to settle for third at the flag.
The result brings to a close a strong end to his first full campaign in the Clio Cup, and Holland hopes it will boost his chances in returning to the grid next year.
“When I got onto the back of the top two, I really thought I had a chance of going for the race win, but when fourth joined in as well I had to think to myself that if I don’t defend him, I could lose the podium,” Holland told TCF.
“I’m well happy with third though. I had a bit of a crash and a bash in the first race and if I’d have got through that one unscathed I reckon I would have been around the podium, but that’s the Clio Cup and I’m delighted to get it in race two.
“Hopefully these last two podium finishes will help us for next year, finding the budget to come back. This is definitely where I want to be.”
