Gustav Malja returns to GP2 with Rapax

Gustav Malja will make his return to the GP2 Series for the final two rounds of the 2015 season in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.

The Swede, who raced mainly in this year’s Formula Renault 3.5 Series, made an appearance at Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix back in August and was able to score a point on his debut with Italian team, Trident.

Throughout his season in FR3.5, Malja was able to clinch two podium places as well as finishing 9th in the overall standings with a total of 79 points whilst racing with Strakka Racing.

I’m massively excited about this opportunity to complete the remainder of the GP2 season with Rapax,” commented Malja. “I did get a taste for the GP2 car at Spa earlier this year, which will hopefully make things a little bit easier and help me get down to work right from the first session.

Malja will reacquaint himself with the GP2 series and machinery as he replaces Robert Visoiu and joins Sergey Sirotkin at Rapax. Although familiar with the car, the 20-year-0ld has never raced around either circuits so is open to any new challenges thrown at him when racing at both.

“I have never been to Bahrain or Abu Dhabi before, but they are now two established tracks on the single-seater calendar and racing there will be a great experience. This is a huge thing and I can’t wait to get started.

The Bahrain round, which is also an individual event, takes place November 19-21, before the series flies to Abu Dhabi for the final round of the GP2, GP3 and Formula 1 calendar a week later.
