Supercup Return For Orton With New Triple M Team

1 Mins read

Jamie Orton will embark on a fifth full season in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup next year after confirming a shock return to the championship with brand-new team Triple M Motorsport.

It was believed that Orton would be moving to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for 2016, with reports that he’d tested and purchased a 911 GT3 Cup car, but the 35 year old has elected for another crack at the Supercup instead.

Orton finished third overall this season with HHC Motorsport, ending his best Supercup campaign yet with fifteen podium finishes including five wins – making it a total of 21 podium finishes in 97 starts.

The new Triple M team is headed by Alan and Nick Mugglestone, and having worked with the duo this year at HHC, Orton is confident that together they can challenge for the title despite the team being new to the series.

“It’s great to be able to confirm a return to the Supercup for 2016,” said Orton. “I had looked at other options but the timing just wasn’t right. I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to work with Alan and Nick Mugglestone again this year as part of their Triple M Motorsport outfit.

“It was too tempting to pass up as I enjoyed working with them so much last year and I felt that if I was to have another crack at it, then there would be no better opportunity to fight for the Championship.

“Whilst last year was great on many levels, I was still a little raw and ultimately third was a little underwhelming. I think as a team we can do better than that this year. It is unfinished business and I feel very excited to be driving a car I love with a team of guys who I know will enable me to get the best out of it.”
