The ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team will field three drivers in the 2016 FIA European Junior Rally Championship as they bid to launch another rallying talent in the Opel Adam R2.
After Emil Bergkvist impressed with his performance in the series last year which led him to taking the title the team will be aiming for more success this year. German drivers Marijan Griebel, Julius Tannert and Britain’s Chris Ingram will all attack the series for Opel.
Griebel had a good year last season for the team finishing third in the series taking two podium finishes and collecting 96 points along the way. Tannert impressed with his performance in the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in Germany last year winning the series outright while also contesting selected rounds of the ERC Junior series. Ingram had a good ERC Junior season in 2015 winning the class in the Azores and finishing fifth overall in his Peugeot 208 R2.
“No one knows better than us how tremendously tough the competition in the ERC Junior Championship is.” said Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott, “Of course, being the defending champion always brings a special pressure to succeed, but we have proved that we can deal with pressure. I am sure that with the Adam R2 and our driver pairings, Opel Motorsport will be counted on again in 2016.”
After the postponement of Rally Liepaja the opening round of the 2016 ERC Junior series will take place on the Circuit of Ireland Rally starting on April 7.
