Teo Martin Motorsport add Vilalta to EF Open squad

1 Mins read

Teo Martin Motorsport has announced that Mexican Jose Manuel Vilalta will race for the team during the 2016 season of EuroFormula Open.

Vilalta raced for the team during 2015 when it was called Emilio de Villota Motorsport during 2015, but scored only one point for a tenth place finish around the Red Bull Ring in Austria, but will be looking to make progress in his sophomore season.

“After a learning year with Emilio de Villota’s team last year, I’m taking this step to consolidate my career,” said Vilalta. “Teo Martin’s team is one of the most respected in Europe and now, after his union with Emilio de Villota Motorsport, I’m sure we made the best choice for my future.

“I am very happy for this opportunity that Emilio and Teo Martin gives me and I’m eager to get on their cars to show the physical work we have done in preseason and of course, to show that last year’s work will pay off.

“I hope the hard work of Emilio de Villota and Teo Martin’s team help us to keep this route to my goals in motorsport.”

Team owner Teo Martin has welcomed Vilalta into his team for 2016, and believes the Mexican is ready to have a much better season this year than in his rookie campaign.

“I’m really happy to have Jose Manuel with us,” revealed Martin. “This will be his second season in EuroFormula Open and I believe he is the right driver to do something great with us.

“He’s talented, young and passionate, so he’s ready to take a big step forward. We’ll do our best to prepare the season in the right way to have a competitive year and I think it will pay off last year’s experience alongside Emilio de Villota.”

Vilalta becomes the second confirmed driver for Teo Martin Motorsport in 2016 after the team secured the services of Russian teenager Nikita Zlobin last month.
