Van Amersfoort Racing have announced that Anthoine Hubert will race for the team in the 2016 FIA European Formula 3 Championship after expanding their team to the maximum four cars.

The nineteen-year-old Frenchman moves to Formula 3 after racing in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series in 2015, where he took two race victories on route to fifth place in the championship with Tech 1 Racing.

Hubert joins fellow series debutants Pedro Piquet and Harrison Newey as well as second year driver Callum Ilott in the expanded line-up, and is eager to get to work ahead of the new season.

“I followed the results of Van Amersfoort Racing F3 for many years and I must say I was impressed by their recent results with the rookies Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc,” said Hubert.

“I am obviously very motivated and excited to join this legendary team of F3 and I want to thank all the staff for giving me confidence. And now: let’s get to work!”

Team owner Fritz van Amersfoort believes Hubert can be one of the surprises if the season after following his progress in motorsport for a while, with van Amersfoort happy with how the Frenchman adapted to the teams’ simulator.

“We were following the progress of Anthoine for quite some time,” said van Amersfoort. “We became more and more impressed by his skills and results. Especially after his clean sweep with two pole positions and two victories in the challenging streets of Pau during a guest appearance in Formula Renault ALPS.

“We decided to invite Anthoine for a test in our simulator and he did a very solid job. We are very happy to add him to our 2016 F3 squad. Anthoine is the sort of driver who could become one of the big surprises.”
