Ginetta Junior race-winner Dan Zelos is joining the Renault UK Clio Cup this season with BTCC front-runners Ciceley Motorsport.
Zelos makes the step up after a successful two year spell in the Juniors, and teams up with fellow Clio newcomer Ollie Pidgely in the Ciceley ranks.
The 17 year old finished fourth overall in the Ginetta Juniors last season, with seven podium finishes across the campaign with JHR Developments.
That came after a superb maiden campaign in 2014, which saw him finish second in the Rookie Cup with outright race wins at Thruxton and Rockingham.
Zelos has retained backing from Evergreen Tyres as he tackles the Clio Cup, in which he will come up against his former Junior team-mate Senna Proctor.
A first test with Ciceley came back in December at Donington Park, and Zelos is set to continue his pre-season preparations at Thruxton tomorrow (18th February).
“I fell in love with it straightaway! It’s like a mini touring car and it was really smooth and easy to drive – I felt like I ‘clicked’ with it pretty quickly,” said Zelos.
It has more power than I’ve been accustomed to before and I’ve got to get used to front wheel-drive and slick tyres for the first time so there’s definitely a learning curve ahead of me, but it feels like a very natural progression.
“Ciceley are ultra-professional and committed and they clearly want to win. But they’ve made it clear that they’re not going to put me under any pressure during my rookie year, which is just what I need as I settle into the championship.
“I owe a massive ‘thank you’ to my loyal partner Evergreen Tyres, who will remain with me on this exciting new journey. I’ve aspired to race in the BTCC ever since I was little and this takes me one step nearer towards that goal.”
