Eriksson and Ilott set the pace in Vallelunga testing

1 Mins read

Joel Eriksson and Callum Ilott led the way at the FIA European Formula 3 Championship pre-season test at Vallelunga.

Eriksson led a Motopark 1-2-3-4 on a rain affected day one, while Ilott set the fastest time of the test on day two for Van Amersfoort Racing.

Two of the four sessions on day one were held in wet conditions, with the track only drying out towards the end of session four, with Eriksson setting a best time of 1m28.488s to finish ahead of team-mates Niko Kari, Guanyu Zhou and Sergio Sette Camara.

Alessio Lorandi and Ryan Tveter placed fifth and sixth for Carlin ahead of Prema Powerteam’s Maximilian Günther, while Raoul Hyman was eighth for Carlin and was the only driver in the test not to yet be confirmed to his ride for 2016.

Prema Powerteam drivers Lance Stroll and Nick Cassidy completed the top ten on day one.

British driver Ilott set the best time on day two of 1m27.728s, just 0.037s ahead of Sette Camara, while Ilott’s team-mate Pedro Piquet ended third fastest ahead of Lorandi.

Anthoine Hubert placed fifth for Van Amersfoort Racing ahead of Tveter and Stroll, with Arjun Maini eighth for ThreeBond with T-Sport, while Eriksson and Kari completed the top ten.

Twenty-one drivers took to the track, with Mücke Motorsport’s David Beckmann the only confirmed driver absent as he is prohibited from testing or racing until he turns sixteen, which will not happen until just before the third round of the season at Pau.
