2013 Formula Ford Festival winner Niall Murray will make a return to single-seater racing this season, entering the BRSCC National Formula Ford 1600 Championship with Bernard Dolan Motorsport.
The former Ginetta Junior race-winner returns to racing full-time in Britain after competing across Ireland for the past three years, in Formula Ford and then last year in the SEAT Supercup Ireland.
Despite taking title success in the SEAT’s, Murray has elected to return to Formula Ford 1600 competition this year, having followed up his Formula Ford Festival win with both the All Ireland and Northern Ireland FF1600 titles in 2014.
For 2016, the National FF1600 champion will gain the opportunity to compete in a shootout to win a USF2000 scholarship on the Mazda Road To Indy in the USA, which Murray says was a major factor in his decision to join the series.
“I’m delighted to finally have a programme in place to go back to the UK for 2016,” said Murray, who will be reunited with the Van Dieman RF99 he took to the Formula Ford Festival win.
“It will probably be the most competitive season of the British Formula Ford 1600 championship with about five potential champions already announced. With the new prize to be in with a chance of a funded season in the USA for 2017, it really adds an extra bit of spice to things.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Bernard Dolan again, I am confident that the car will be 100% every time I get into it, so now I’m just looking forward to getting the testing programme under way.”
