Ace GT and sportscar racer Adam Carroll will partner Liam Griffin in the Irish TV backed Lamborghini Huracan GT3 raced by Barwell Motorsport.
The Northern Irishman will get behind the wheel at the upcoming two-hour round at Rockingham as well as the two one-hour sprints at Oulton Park at the end of May, replacing Lamborghini Squadra Corse driver Fabio Babini in the car because of the Italian’s busy schedule competing in both the Blancpain GT Series and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Carroll’s signing provides a good stop-gap for the team until Alexander Sims takes over the seat from Silverstone for the remainder of the season. Barwell Motorsport ideally wanted Sims in the car for the full-season but his factory commitments for BMW meant he’d have to miss the first three weekends.
With Liam Griffin competing for the full-season Carroll’s primary objective is to help Griffin’s title bid and with his previous British GT experience – he competed in the FF Corse Ferrari 458 alongside Gary Eastwood at Snetterton and races in the FIA World Endurance Championship GTE Am drive for Gulf Racing this season.
It won’t even be Carroll’s first time in the Huracan – he raced alongside Darren Nelson in an example of the Italian marque’s newest racer in the opening round of the GT Cup series at Donington Park where both drivers claimed pole and a second place finish.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to racing with Barwell for the first time in their new Lamborghini. Liam and I will make a strong pairing and we should have a good chance of some top results in the next two rounds.”
British GT’s visit to the Rockingham oval takes place this weekend, April 30/May 1.
