Burns Continues Strong Start With Donington Podiums

1 Mins read

Will Burns has maintained his second place standing in the 2016 Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup with a pair of podium finishes in the second meeting of the season at Donington Park.

The Douglas Motorsport racer backed up his maiden Supercup victory at Brands Hatch two weeks prior with third and second place finishes during the visit to Leicestershire.

From fifth on the grid in the opening race, Burns was able to pick off Carl Boardley and Ben Green on his way to the podium, before a slick move on Jamie Orton in race two secured him second.

Unfortunately, contact from Orton in race three would derail Burns’ challenge, but he was able to recover strongly – closing down a gap of over ten seconds to the main pack before storming through to eleventh at the finish.

“It’s been a good weekend overall. We showed great race pace throughout and was unlucky not to be higher in qualifying,” said Burns.

“We knew the car was strong though and we got through to the podium in the first race, which is where we should have been with our pace. We improved to second in race two which was fantastic, and we knew our tyres were in a great position for the final race.

“We were looking to fight for the top step of the podium and had a good start to get up to second, but just got tagged at the rear and spun us around. It’s a disappointing way to end the weekend as it wasn’t our fault, but now we need to bounce back at Oulton Park next time out and get back to winning ways.”
