Colton Herta to make British F3 debut, replacing Norris

1 Mins read

Upcoming American driver Colton Herta will make his début in the BRDC British F3 series this weekend at Brands Hatch. The Carlin seat has been made available with regular driver Lando Norris busy racing in the opening round of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series.

Herta was set to race in the championship before deciding to race instead in the EuroFormula Open series after a successful test with Carlin, and returns to the UK having taken twelve podiums, including four wins over the course of 2015 when he competed with Carlin in the MSA Formula series last season.

Herta said: “I’m really happy to get the racing started this weekend after what has felt like quite a long off season for me. I want to say a big thank you to Trevor for this opportunity and also to Lando – I’m really looking forward to the weekend and getting out there.”

“I’m very familiar with the BRDC car which should mean I can be on the pace straight away. The aim is to finish off what Lando started at the first race and win! We’re pot hunting and I want to keep that trend going.”

Trevor Carlin, Team Principal of Carlin, added: “Colton makes the perfect substitute for Lando, having started season preparations in the BRDC car earlier this year. We know he has excellent pace and I’ve no doubt he’ll be a great asset to the team this weekend at Brands Hatch.”

Norris picked up the first race win of the season and left Snetterton second in the championship with 74 points. Carlin will hoping for a strong weekend after team mates, Ricky Collard and Ameya Vaidyanathan were both unable to challenge the podium positions.
