Defourny storms to opening Motorland poles

1 Mins read

Max Defourny confirmed himself as one of those to watch in 2016 after grabbing pole position for the opening two Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series races at Motorland Aragon on Saturday.

The Belgian racer was the quickest in Group B of the split qualifying session, with his 1m55.159s enough to see off the quickest lap of Group A, set by Lando Norris.

R-ace GP ace Defourny and Josef Kaufmann Racing’s Norris will line up side by side for both the opening two races of the new season around the Spanish track, with their respective second fastest times enough to top each of their respective groups as well.

Dorian Boccolacci secured third on the grid for Tech 1 Racing, and will line up alongside team-mate Gabriel Aubry, while row three will see Josef Kaufmann Racing’s Jehan Daruvala and AVF’s Harrison Scott.

The third of the three Josef Kaufmann Racing entries will start seventh in the hands of young Russian Robert Shwartzman, with the leading Fortec Motorsports entry of wildcard racer Nikita Troitskiy eighth, while Bruno Baptista of Fortec and Alexey Korneev of JD Motorsport complete the top ten.

For race two, Boccolacci and Scott will share row two ahead of Shwartzman, Aubry, Daruvala, Troitskiy, Baptista and Tech 1 Racing’s Hugo de Sadeleer.
