Power leads Penske domination of Long Beach FP3

1 Mins read

Will Power led a Team Penske 1-2-3-4 in final practice ahead of qualifying for the 2016 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Saturday.

The Australian set a time of 1m06.8892s to sit on top of the time sheets for the second time this weekend, with team-mates Simon Pagenaud, Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya finishing second, third and fourth respectively.

Mikhail Aleshin was the best non-Penske in fifth, with the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver ending just over half a second shy of Power’s pacesetting time.

Graham Rahal as sixth for Rahal Letterman Lanigan with Theodore Racing ahead of fellow American Josef Newgarden of Ed Carpenter Racing, while Canadian ace James Hinchcliffe followed in eighth in the second Schmidt entry.

The top ten was completed by KVSH Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais and by Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon.

There were two red flags during the session, with Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) and Rahal both hitting the barriers at turn 9, with both Alexander Rossi (Andretti Herta Autosport) and Conor Daly (Dale Coyne Racing) also being caught out by the corner although both were able to keep their cars away from danger.
