Daniel Ricciardo: “I’m really happy to be back in the top three”

1 Mins read

The Daniel Ricciardo smile was clearly evident after qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, after the Australian was able to qualify third on the grid.

The Red Bull Racing driver was happy that both he and his new team-mate Max Verstappen were able to qualify ahead of the Scuderia Ferrari drivers during the qualifying session at the Circuit de Catalunya on Saturday, and is hoping to remain in a podium position during Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Ricciardo felt he put in a great final lap to take the third spot on the grid, putting together all the sectors when it mattered to just about stay ahead of Verstappen.

“Firstly I’m really happy to be back in the top three on Saturday and will try and be back here tomorrow!” exclaimed Ricciardo. “I’m happy for both of us (Max and I) to be in front of the Ferraris, we are both on the second row, which is pretty awesome.

“It took a bit of time to come together, but in Q3 I knew I had one lap and knew I had the pace and where I could do it; it was about putting it all together – up until then I hadn’t, but Q3 is what counts and I did it, so I’m really happy.”
