It was the perfect result for DAMS to welcome them into the GP3 Series by locking out the front row with Jake Hughes on pole closely followed by team-mate Kevin Jörg. The top three is completed by ART Grand Prix and Ferrari Driver Academy member Charles Leclerc.
The thirty minute session started in very different conditions than what faced the drivers in practice as they were greeted by blue skies. The early pace was set by Alexander Albon before the Arden International duo of Jake Dennis and Jack Aitken took turns to lead the pack.
As many drivers returned to the pit lane Jörg used this opportunity of an empty track to shoot into P1 – the Swiss driver remained on top with less than seven minutes remaining ahead of Aitken, Dennis, Matthew Parry, Santino Ferrucci, Albon and Tatiana Calderon.
Spanish driver Alex Palou had a difficult session in his Campos Racing machine which suffered technical gremlins which left him in last place.
It was soon an ART one-two-three when Nirei Fukuzumi flew to the top of the timings before Leclerc replaced him at the top with Albon also moving up into third.
With just three minutes to go Hughes set a flier of a lap and was the first to lap in the 1m34s. In the dying moments Jörg found some extra pace to join his team-mate on the front row as the chequered flag was waved.
Behind the DAMS duo of Hughes and Jörg comes: Leclerc, Fukuzumi, Dennis, Oscar Tunjo, Antonio Fuoco, Albon, Ralph Boschung and Aitken.
The first race of the 2016 campaign takes place today at 5:20pm local time.
