Double R announce plan to compete in F4 Spanish Championship

1 Mins read

Double R Racing have registered their intentions to expand their operations outside the United Kingdom, with the team entering the upcoming FIA F4 Spanish Championship. The inaugural season kicks off in two weeks time.

After the success the team has seen this season in the BRDC British F3 Championship, and its FIA equivalent in the United Kingdom, the F4 British Championship, the Woking based team plans to make the most of the new series that could yet be another strong proving ground for young drivers.

“The F4 championships certified by FIA are very good championships for young drivers”, said Double R team principal Anthony “Boyo” Hieatt, “We are already present in the F4 British Championship and we would like to expand our team in that direction.”

“The 2016 F4 Spanish Championship is, therefore, a very good opportunity for us. We love racing on Spanish circuits and we want to be part of a new challenge, so we are delighted to enter the maiden year of the F4 Spanish Championship certified by FIA.”

Afa Heikkinen the series’ promoter, added: “It is very good to see that international teams as well-known as Double R Racing are taking part in our championship. They have a long history in motorsport, therefore their trust and support is important for us in those early days. We will have an interesting grid and we are very impatient to start the season.”

The seven round season will commence on the 11 and 12 June at the Navarra circuit. After a further three rounds in Spain and two in Portugal, the series will feature a non-championship round at the end of the season, the circuit for which is yet to be announced.
