Gasly, Canamasas excluded from Monaco qualifying

Both Pierre Gasly and Sergio Canamasas will start Friday’s Feature race at Monaco from the pit lane after both were excluded from qualifying after missing being called into the weighbridge during the session.

For Red Bull-backed championship leader Gasly, it compounded his disappointing day, after qualifying down in sixteenth following an unscheduled visit to the pits after reporting brake failure on his Prema Racing machine.

Spaniard Canamasas, who has finished on the podium at Monaco in both 2014 and 2015, will be hard pressed to repeat this feat after doing the same in his session of qualifying, meaning the Carlin driver loses his thirteenth place on the grid.

Nabil Jeffri will also start from the pit lane on Friday but for a different offence. The Arden Motorsport driver was handed a three-place grid penalty for blocking Artem Markelov during the session, but as the Malaysian driver was already starting at the back of the field, he could not take his penalty in full, meaning a pit lane start.
