Adam Morgan and Ciceley Motorsport moved to the top in the second Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship tyre test at Snetterton on Thursday, but it was Tom Ingram‘s Wednesday effort that remained the benchmark.
Under drier conditions to what drivers faced the day prior in Norfolk, it was Morgan who set the pace in Thursday’s morning session with a time of 1m56.629s, just under 0.7s slower than Ingram’s best time from Wednesday.
Team BKR‘s Aron Smith took the spoils in the afternoon session in his Volkswagen CC, finishing second overall behind Morgan’s Mercedes A-Class thanks to an effort in the morning just 0.101s shy of his rival.
The best times were predominantly set in that first outing between 9am and midday, Daniel Lloyd again shining for Eurotech Racing in third overall as the lead Honda Civic Type-R.
Fourth was Ingram’s Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis, although his lap record-breaking Wednesday effort of 1m55.932s remained the quickest of the two-day test.
Andrew Jordan ended another solid day inside the top five for Motorbase Performance, Jeff Smith‘s Eurotech Honda next up ahead of Aiden Moffat‘s Mercedes. Colin Turkington was best of the Silverline Subaru BMR Racing Levorgs, while Rob Austin (Toyota) and Ashley Sutton (MG) rounded out the top 10 best times of the day.
Turkington’s BMR team-mate Jason Plato ran into technical problems on Thursday, limiting his running to 13 laps in the morning and just two in the afternoon.
Taking over from the regulars, Volkswagen Racing Cup leader Bobby Thompson finished 19th overall for Power Maxed Racing in the Chevrolet Cruze, while Renault Clio Cup UK championship leader Ant Whorton-Eales ended 23rd and just 1.7s off Morgan’s pace in the Team HARD Toyota Avensis. British GT regular Dennis Strandberg took the wheel of the Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus ST, finishing close behind in 24th.
17th was the best that championship leader Sam Tordoff could manage for West Surrey Racing, just ahead of team-mate Rob Collard on a much more productive day of tweaking for the field.
