William Buller will race for Carlin in this weekend’s FIA European Formula 3 Championship race around the Norisring street circuit in place of the recuperating Zhi Cong Li.
Li is recovering at home following the massive crash he suffered during the previous round at the Red Bull Ring when he ploughed unsighted into the spun car of team-mate Ryan Tveter, with the Chinese racer corkscrewing through the air before landing in the gravel trap.
Buller steps in alongside Tveter, who is fit and ready to return after sitting out the final two races of the Red Bull Ring weekend, and alongside Pau Grand Prix winner Alessio Lorandi.
“The whole Carlin team have been really great in welcoming me back into the fold,” revealed Buller. “After racing in Japan for the last few seasons it’s a great opportunity for me to come back into Europe and I’m confident I can produce a strong performance as racing in Super Formula has really improved me as a driver.
“Trevor [Carlin] and I feel as though there is definitely some unfinished business at Norisring after not getting awarded the win in 2012. So I hope this weekend we can bring back some good memories and get on the top step!”
The 2012 race in question at the Norisring saw race winner Daniel Juncadella disqualified from the results due to colliding with Pascal Wehrlein and Raffaele Marciello, but the stewards decided to not recognise any driver as race winner, meaning second placed Buller was the best finisher of the race, and the Briton will be looking to finally stand on the top step of the podium at the German track.
