EKSRX Aims For Three In A Row At World RX of Sweden

1 Mins read

Mattias Ekstrom has won the World RX of Sweden in 2014 and 2015  and is looking to take a third win in a row at the Swedish round of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship.

The EKSRX driver is currently leading the Drivers Championship by five points ahead of rival Petter Solberg after taking three wins so far this season and Holjes is next in his sights for win number four. 2016 has been a strong year so far for EKSRX with the addition of Topi Heikkinen to the line up and both drivers have proven to be the class of the field in the dominant Audi S1 Quattro Supercar.

Ekstrom is looking forward to defending his points lead in Sweden:

“It’s very nice to be on top of the world after 5 of 12 rounds, but nobody has been awarded with a trophy for that in the past and it won’t happen this year either,” says Ekström. “It’s still a loooong way to go, but we have been on the podium at all of the rounds so far and we know that our Audi S1 EKS RX quattro likes Höljes as much as I do. When I look back and remember these events, I still get goose bumps all over my body,” says Mattias Ekström. “The track … the fans … the atmosphere … Höljes really deserves to be called ‘Magic Weekend.’ We are ready to make it three in a row.”

Heikkinen is hoping to hit the ground running this weekend to earn another trophy:

“The last round in Hell was a step forward and I’m pretty sure that Höljes will be the next one. We had a proper test on the track several weeks ago and I felt really, really comfortable in the car. Fingers crossed for some good starting positions in the qualifying runs and some champagne on Sunday.”
