Joel Eriksson has become the latest driver to be announced to join the BMW Motorsport Junior Programme, and will start his alliance this weekend during the FIA European Formula 3 Championship event at the Norisring.
Eriksson, who races for the German-based Motopark team in Formula 3 in 2016 and has a best finish so far this year of second at the Hungaroring, joins Jesse Krohn, Louis Deletraz, Ricky Collard and Nico Menzel in the programme.
“I’m very grateful to BMW Motorsport for the opportunity to continue my development as a racing driver with a major manufacturer,” said Eriksson.
“It’s the perfect addition to my racing activities in F3. I’m looking forward to an exciting and, no doubt, very educational time.”
Part of Eriksson’s duties this weekend at the Norisring will be to drive the BMW M4 DTM Racetaxi alongside his racing commitments, with BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt delighted to welcome the Swede to the programme.
“I’m delighted to welcome another great motorsport talent to our ranks in Joel Eriksson,” said Marquardt. “We have been watching his development for some time now and he impressed us with his performances during this season.
“I think that he, like the other BMW Motorsport Juniors, can take the next important step in his development as a racing driver with us.”
