Jones Pleased With Top Five Double On Supercup Return

1 Mins read

Declan Jones feels he was able to show a glimpse of what he could achieve in the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Supercup as he took a pair of fifth place finishes on his return to the series at Oulton Park.

Jones’ last outing in the BTCC support championship came in the 2014 season finale, and the Liverpudlian was keen to make an impression this time out at his home circuit.

Running with headline backing from Red Square Vodka, the 21 year old immediately settled into the top five in qualifying, finishing up just two tenths of a second away from a place on the second row.

Two controlled drives in the races would see the 2013 British GT4 vice-champion take a pair of fifth place finishes, comfortably clear of the sixth placed driver on each occasion.

“I am pleased with how it has gone and how I have represented Red Square Vodka,” said Jones, who ran with reigning champions Century Motorsport.

“There was a lot of pressure this weekend, and while I said pre-event I wanted a top-five and to push for a win or a podium, I’m not too disappointed, even though we didn’t get that top-three.

“I know there is a lot more in me, but it is all just down to seat time. That is what I am really missing out on. Everyone in front of me has been doing it for two or three years, they are seasoned racers.

“It was more than respectable to go home with two fifths and hopefully I have done enough to convince Red Square Vodka to back me again.”
