Nico Rosberg believes the Baku City Circuit is ‘pretty cool’ after completing in the first opening day of practice for the European Grand Prix.

The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS driver finished the opening practice session with a quickest time of 1:46.812, finishing behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton in second. However in Free Practice 2, problems arose for Rosberg,  with the German losing power and being advised to park his W07 with twenty minutes left on the clock.

Rosberg was still able to set a fastest lap time of 1:44.913 but was again outpaced by Hamilton and had to settle for second, with the Brackley-based outfit now investigating to see what happened with the car.

“The track is pretty cool,” said Rosberg. “There are just some safety concerns at a few places like the pit entry, which we have to look into.

“One lap pace was a bit tricky for me, as I only had one set of Soft tyres to use. But on the long run with the SuperSoft I was feeling good out there. Unfortunately my second session was a bit compromised this afternoon as I had to stop the car after I lost power.

“We are still investigating what happened there. I was a bit surprised by the order today, seeing Force India just behind us. I don’t really know what to expect from Red Bull and Ferrari over the weekend, as they’ve been our closest rivals so far, so we’ll see.”
