PREVIEW: 2016 Euro RX of Norway TouringCar and RX Lites

2 Mins read

The 2016 FIA European Rallycross Championship for Touring Cars moves to Hell in Norway for its second round of the year where Magda Andersson will be looking for her second straight win of the year.

Andersson took her maiden victory in the Touring Car class after taking her Sweden Junior Team Ford Fiesta to the win ahead of Fredrik Magnussen, who leads the Drivers Championship in his Ford Fiesta after being dominant in the Qualifying races at Mettet. Andersson lies in second place and is tied on 23 points with both Ben-Philip Gundersen and David Nordgard, who will be looking to challenge for victory on home turf along with Magnussen and Gundersen.

Daniel Lundh was unlucky in Mettet after contact on the first start of the Final saw him ruled out from going any further in the event and he will be looking to improve the performance of his Volvo C30 to make serious in roads into the points advantage held by those in front of him. Overall from the entry list of  17 Touring Cars, 13 are driven by Norwegians, so the chance of a home win for one of these drivers is increasingly likely.

The fourth round of the 2016 RX Lites Cup will also see action at Hell this weekend with 13 entries for the Norwegian round. Championship leader Cyril Raymond will be out to try and increase his lead over rival Thomas Bryntesson. Raymond took the championship lead at Lydden Hill in the UK last time out, whilst Bryntesson suffered with issues during Qualifying to come home in second place in the Final. The Norwegian driver will look to try and wrestle back the points lead from his rival on home ground. Joining Bryntesson at the expanded lineup in the JC RaceTeknik team will be regular team-mates Sondre Evjen and Joachim Hvaal along with Henrik M. Krogstad who makes his debut with the team.

The Cup also sees debuts for several drivers this weekend. Dakar Rally driver and former Olympian Albert Llovera in the Polish Lotto Team, who will drive a specially adapted RX Lites Cup car using hand-controls to pilot the vehicle. This will be the first time that such a car has been used in the RX Lites catergory. Turkey’s Ali Turkkan is also entered as is United Arab Emirates driver Saeed Bintouq. Swedish driver Jonathan Walfridson and Norway’s Thomas Holmen will also make their first starts of the season in the catergory.
