Matteo Cairoli has continued his storming start to the 2016 Porsche Mobil1 Supercup by claiming pole-position for the third round of the season at the Red Bull Ring.
Cairoli’s FACH Auto Tech car will lead Mathieu Jaminet off the front row of the grid, as the former French Carrera Cup vice-champion starts to make progress in his debut Supercup season.
Row two is an all Lechner Racing affair, with Sven Müller and Jeffrey Schmidt occupying third and fourth.
Ben Barker is eighth in his MOMO-Megatron Team Partrax car and will be hoping for more luck than he has enjoyed in Austria previously, and team-mate Paul Rees could only manage fifteenth. Ryan Cullen in another Lechner entry is a respectable eleventh on the grid. This was only one position behind Michael Ammermüller, Cullen’s fellow Lechner Racing stable-mate, who was off-form on Saturday.
As inclement weather disrupted the single-seater action this afternoon, the Porsche drivers will be hoping for somewhat friendlier conditions tomorrow morning. Round three of the 2016 season will be live on Eurosport 1 from 10:30am BST. Cairoli is king of the castle for now, but his rivals are ready to pounce at even the slightest slip-up.
