Cooksport Up To Four At Snetterton With Debutant Deegan

1 Mins read

Current Mini Miglia championship leader Shayne Deegan will make his Renault UK Clio Cup debut later this month as he joins Team Cooksport for the visit to Snetterton (30/31 July).

Deegan’s addition at his home circuit will move Cooksport back to a high of a four-car entry for the first time this season, having run a quartet of Clios at times last season.

The 21 year old has won seven out of eight races so far in the Miglia series, whilst also being a double-winner in the 750 Motor Club’s Stock hatch category.

Those successes have come at the wheel of Josh Cook’s old Citroen Saxo, with the sale of the car to Deegan forming a relationship that has culminated in the Clio drive.

“Racing in front of my home crowd alongside the BTCC and live on ITV4 – I’ve not raced in anything on this scale before but there’s everything to look forward to,” said Deegan.

“I’ve watched the UK Clio Cup for some years and love it – the cars are the business and Renault Sport makes sure they are all very even so it comes down to driver skill.

“On saying that I won’t drive the car for the first time until the official Friday test – the biggest thing to get used to will probably be the steering wheel-mounted six-speed paddle gearshift system.

I’m really keen to be on the UK Clio Cup grid and Cooksport seem to like me so hopefully we can put in some strong results first time out together.”
