Ferdinand Habsburg consolidated his second place in the EuroFormula Open championship standings with another hard fought podium finish on Sunday at Silverstone to add to his fourth place from Saturday’s opener.
The Austrian started the weekend compromised having had an automatic four-place grid penalty handed to him and Enaam Ahmed, with both drivers having raced at Silverstone earlier this season in other championships, with Habsburg having raced in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup in May.
But the Drivex School driver was able to move from eighth on the grid to finish fourth in race one, including an impressive overtake on Damiano Fioravanti around the outside of Stowe Corner, before qualifying third and finishing on the tail of race winner Antoni Ptak on Sunday to move closer to championship leader Leonardo Pulcini.
“It’s great to get another EuroFormula Open podium in the bag,” said Habsburg. “It was a tough start due to the penalties, but overall I am happy with the results and happy we managed to close the gap to Pulcini.
“We have learnt some more about the F3 car and I feel I am really growing as a driver. Now we move on to the next round at my home track, I can’t wait to succeed there.”
