Red Bull GRC cancels abandoned New River round

1 Mins read

Red Bull Global Rallycross has announced that the second MCAS New River event will not be completed.

Both the Supercars and Lites finals on the second half of the double header event earlier this month were called off after inclement weather made the track unsafe to be raced on.

At the time, Red Bull GRC Vice President and Director of Competition Joey Mancari said : “We just can’t continue today because we couldn’t put everybody on a safe race track.”

Now Red Bull GRC has released a statement, confirming the event will not be rescheduled.

“Red Bull Global Rallycross officials have announced the cancellation of the round in its entirety,” read the statement. “Round 7 cannot be resumed due to the inability to replicate the race circumstances and facility at which it was originally contested.”

After initial thoughts that the event may be completed at a later date, the full New River II event has been scrapped, with points from the heats and semi finals no longer counting towards the championship. New River I, won by Scott Speed, remains unaffected.
