AMG-Team AKKA ASP’s Felix Rosenqvist left it until three laps from the end of his run to set the fastest time in Pre-Qualifying at the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
On a now dry track after rain made an appearance in free practice, times were notably faster from the whole of the 65 car field and at for much of the sixty minute session it was the #00 Black Falcon Mercedes AMG of Maro Engel who topped the timing screens with a 2:19.614 in the Linkin Park liveried machine.
When Rosenqvist’s fast time came, also in a Mercedes AMG, the margin was only small – 0.065s in fact – as he clocked a 2:19.549 to not only set the fastest time, but to make it a Mercedes 1-2-3 as Clemens Schmid claimed third spot for HTP Motorsport.
In fourth was the fastest Audi and, like in free practice, it was the Saintéloc Audi R8 LMS of Christopher Haase, who claimed honours for the four rings.
Behind was yet another Mercedes, this the AMG-Team HTP Motorsport entry of Maximilian Buhk with a 2:20.016 – the first of the entries to not make it into the 2:19s.
He was just ahead of the fastest Pro-Am Cup entry – the #666 Demon Tweeks liveried Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Barwell Motorsport as Oliver Gavin set a 2:20.129 to claim honours in that class. Second in Pro-Am was the ISR Racing Audi of Philippe Giauque which finished eighth overall.
37th overall was the Am Cup leaders – and Blancpain GT Series points leaders in that class – the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Marco Zanuttini. He finished half a second clear of the Team Parker Racing Bentley Continental GT3 of Chris Harris.
