The ThreeBond with T-Sport team will make their return to the FIA European Formula 3 Championship at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of July with former Formula Renault 2.0 race winner Ukyo Sasahara.
The Japanese racer steps into the car vacated by Indian driver Arjun Maini, who has made the move to the GP3 Series and made his debut there last weekend at Silverstone.
ThreeBond were absent from the previous round of the championship at the Norisring and will not be racing this weekend at Zandvoort, but will be out on track at Spa with Sasahara, who has been racing karts this season so far but will return to single seaters for the race in Belgium.
“Ukyo has been on our radar since he tested with the team back in 2014,” said team boss Russell Eacott.
“He is an ideal candidate to run and we hope that these selected outings may lead to a permanent drive with the team for the 2017 season.”
The team will run Sasahara with the Tomei-built ThreeBond at Spa-Francorchamps, the first time since the opening round of the season that they’ve used that engine rather than the NBE engine, which Maini raced with at the Hungaroring, Pau and the Red Bull Ring.
